How to Use Split Screen in VPOP
We’re excited to introduce Split Screen in VPOP — a powerful new way to view up to four images or documents at the same time. Whether you’re in the OR, teaching, or reviewing cases, Split Screen makes it easier to keep everything you need in sight without constantly switching back and forth.
This update brings a new level of convenience: you can keep key radiographs, implant plans, and even patient notes visible together on one screen — perfect for reference during surgery or collaborative learning.
It also marks the first step toward true multiview planning in VPOP. By allowing you to view multiple images side by side or stacked, Split Screen helps you stay organised, work efficiently, and focus on what matters most — your patients.”
The Split Screen feature in VPOP lets you view up to four images or documents side by side. It’s designed for large screens in the operating room, so you can reference multiple radiographs, implant plans, or notes simultaneously.
⚠️ Important: Use Split Screen for reference and review. Perform your detailed surgical planning in single large view mode.
1. Getting Started – First Frame
When you open a case, the first image appears inside a frame with a blue border.
The blue border shows the active frame (where you’re working).
At the top of the screen, you’ll see numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 showing how many frames are in use.
Tap/click 2, 3, or 4 to add additional frame.
To add another image (up to four), select the next number along on the top right above the blue frame. Once you do this, a second frame will open:
You then need to click on the image you wish to assign to this frame:
The tool tab has been moved from the top right of the screen and can be accessible in each frame you have an image selected with so planing can be done independently on each image. To elaborate, each frame contains its own tool menu with six icons:
Lock / Unlock Image – Freeze this frame.
Remove Image – Clear the frame.
Planning Tools Menu – Access Implants, Tools, Images.
Download Image – Save the image locally.
Refresh Image – Reload the image.
Full Screen View – Expand this frame to full size.

3. Locking Frames
To keep a frame fixed, click the lock icon.
The first icon will change to a locked status.
This is essential when you want to change one frame but keep others unchanged.
4. Swapping or Changing an Image
To change what’s displayed in a frame:
Lock all frames you want to keep.
Leave the frame you want to change unlocked.
Click/tap inside the frame (blue border will show it’s active).
Select the image or PDF from the left hand menu to add it to the frame.
The new file will load into that frame while the others remain unchanged.
5. Adding PDFs
Any frame can display a PDF (e.g., patient notes, reports).
Lock the frames you want to keep → select the frame to change → choose PDF from the left hand menu Clinical HX, ABS, PDFS tab or reports tab.
6. Download, Refresh, Full Screen
Download: Save the frame’s image.
Refresh: Reload the image if it’s slow or missing.
Full Screen: Expand one frame to fill the workspace, then exit to return to split view.
7. Mobile & Tablet Usage
On Microsoft, Android, and iOS apps, frames are displayed stacked vertically instead of side by side.
The UI can sometimes obscure part of an image, especially when calibrating in portrait mode.
Rotate to landscape to maximise workspace and see the full calibration marker.
On smaller screens, consider using 1–2 frames rather than all four.
8. FAQs
Q: How does Split Screen work on mobile and tablets?
A: Frames are stacked vertically. Scroll between them to view up to four at once.
Q: My image is hidden by the tool menu. What can I do?
A: Tap away to close the menu, pinch-zoom to reposition, or rotate to landscape for more space.
Q: I can’t see the calibration marker.
A: Rotate into landscape mode before calibrating.
Q: Can I lock and swap images on mobile?
A: Yes. Lock the frames you want to keep, leave one open, then load a new image or PDF.
Q: Can I add PDFs on mobile?
A: Yes, PDFs display in frames just like images. Zoom and scroll may be needed.
Q: Why is Split Screen best for OR use, not detailed planning?
A: Because UI elements can obscure images on smaller devices. Use Split Screen to reference notes/images in theatre, and single view for detailed planning.
Q: Is functionality different on desktop vs mobile?
A: No, the tools are the same. Only the layout differs: side by side on desktop, stacked vertically on mobile.
9. Troubleshooting Quick Guide
Problem | Cause | Solution |
Calibration marker hidden | Tool UI overlaps image | Rotate to landscape → Collapse tool menu → Zoom/pan |
Image looks cropped | Limited vertical space | Switch to landscape → Use Full Screen (⛶) → Scroll/zoom |
Too many frames on small screen | Four stacked frames take up space | Limit to 2 frames → Lock reference images, swap others |
PDF too small | PDF scaled to frame | Pinch-zoom + scroll → Rotate to landscape |
Tool menu won’t disappear | Menu active until tapped away | Tap outside the menu → Switch frames if needed |
Wrong image replaced | Wrong frame unlocked | Always lock all frames to keep, leave only one open |
Slow/unresponsive | Multiple high-res images | Use fewer frames → Refresh → Check Wi-Fi |
Can’t exit full screen | Still in expanded mode | Tap Full Screen (⛶) again or swipe down (OS dependent) |
10. Best Practice in the OR
Use large monitors whenever possible.
Keep reference images locked and only swap the frame you need.
Use landscape mode on tablets/mobiles for calibration and detail.
Limit frames on small screens (2 max for clarity).
Keep patient notes open in a PDF frame for fast access.
Summary
Split Screen currently provides:
Up to 4 frames per case.
A 6-icon tool menu per frame (Lock, Remove, Planning Tools, Download, Refresh, Full Screen).
Image and PDF support across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Mobile layout = stacked vertically, desktop layout = side by side.
This is Phase 1 of VPOP’s multiview features. Future updates will expand the functionality further.
